Carolyn Rodz has raised billions of dollars in capital for start-ups and Fortune 500 companies, and designed global strategy campaigns to position her clients as industry leaders. But, it’s Circular Board, the business accelerator Carolyn created exclusively for women, that makes her one of Entrepreneur Magazine’s 2016 “Women to Watch”. On this week’s episode of Glambition Radio, Carolyn talks candidly about failing her first time out as an entrepreneur, and why that eye-opening experience turned her into an advocate for women business owners, determined to spread the wealth and close the gender gap in the competitive world of start-ups.
When Carolyn left her steady job with JP Morgan Chase to launch her own luxury retail line, she was confident her new venture would be a great success. She had financing and distributorships with big retailers like Harrods and Neiman Marcus. It all looked great on paper, but what Carolyn didn’t count on was how much she didn’t know… and how lonely it was going to be to go at it alone. Carolyn forgot about her greatest asset – she had an incredible network of people and never called on them when she needed them the most. The next time she started a company, Carolyn’s networking paid off and she built her own multi-million dollar business.

Circular Board is everything Carolyn wishes she had back when she started out as an entrepreneur. Participants join peer groups, and via videoconference they share ideas and receive feedback from fellow women entrepreneurs from all over the world. The program offers mentors and community resources, but its main goal is to give women in business the opportunity to be vulnerable, learn, experiment and grow.
I was honored that Carolyn asked me to speak on stage at her recent Circular Board event, alongside leaders like Jane Wurwand of Dermalogica and Alli Webb of Drybar.
