A disastrous romantic weekend getaway turned Tamara Lohan and her husband, James, into boutique hotel experts with a vengeance. They decided to package their knowledge into a guide, then a business. Today, the UK-based company books over $70 Million in accommodations a year via their site MrAndMrsSmith.com, making them one of the luxury travel industry’s top global brands.
But most of all, you’ll love Tamara’s spirit and how she’s done all this while going from London party girl to a high achieving entrepreneur mom.
On this week’s episode of Glambition Radio, Tamara reveals why she never wanted to be an entrepreneur, explains what’s behind her company’s name (it has nothing to do with Brad and Angelina!), and tells us how the hell she did this while raising two kids. (And doing it sanely. Well, there was that time she locked them all in the car while launching her new website – story revealed on the show.)
Before they became Mr & Mrs Smith, Tamara and James worked day jobs in London and looked forward to luxurious weekend breaks from the city. But, the choices were slim and hard to find, so the couple decided to write their own boutique hotel guidebooks.
Publishers turned them down, so Tamara and James borrowed money – put everything they had on the line – and self-published. The gamble paid off, and they sold 10,000 copies of their guidebooks within six weeks. A few years later, they launched MrAndMrsSmith.com and now have 120 staff members in their offices in London, Los Angeles, Singapore, and New York.
Tamara and James have always taken their kids on the road with them, and now they’re turning Mr & Mrs Smith into a family act. The company is expanding into private villas — offering something special for the whole family. Parents can combine lush accommodations with quality family time.
On this episode of Glambition Radio, Tamara and I also talk about finding gold dust, the downside of being superhuman, and why you have to keep on top of the details!
